Celebrate TODAY by giving some precious time and attention to your child.[/caption]
This is the time of year when we remember events of the past year and look forward to the new year that is coming. This is the time when we lament mistakes and resolve to do better in the future. New Year’s brings new opportunities and new opportunities bring new hope.
Let me challenge you with one thing, in the midst of remembering, as well as looking forward, don’t forget that today matters. True goals are achieved in incremental steps and with a daily commitment. The reason most resolutions fail is because they are predicated on tomorrow. Tomorrow is great but today is already here.
With that in mind, make today the day you spend time talking to your child. Make today the day you ask him about school and friends and her favorite music and shows. Make today the day you share a story about a time when you were their age. Make today the day that you hug them and you tell them you love them. Make today the day you read them a story and tuck them in bed and even hold their hand and pray.
Why is it so important to start today? Because we never know if we are going to have tomorrow. This week moms and dads and even kids did not make it to Christmas. There are many people who would give all of their memories and resolutions to have one more chance to live in the now with the people they love.
With the coming of a New Year resolve to make today the day you spend time simply talking to your child.
